Each year Upskilled, a Registered Training Organisation organises a Charity Golf Tournament in support of Special Olympics Sydney South athletes.
The annual Golf Day is the major fundraising event for Special Olympics Sydney South, raising between $11K to $14K each year, thanks to its corporate partnership with Upskilled.
Now in its fourth year, the annual Golf Day organized by Special Olympics Sydney South and Upskilled has grown in popularity, attracting 100 to 130 supporters each year. The day includes a casual sausage sizzle lunch, with snacks and drinks provided throughout.
As with previous years, players of all skill levels can look forward to a day of fun and games, business networking and socialising, all in the picturesque surrounds of the 18-hole course. The day promises to be exciting – with auctions, lucky draws and raffle as part of the day’s fundraising activities.
Funds raised will go directly to support about 130 athletes registered with the Special Olympics in the Sydney South Region. It will help with the costs of sports programs, membership fees, purchase of equipment and uniforms, transport as well as other related expenses that their families would otherwise have to cover.
In 2014, before the online college Upskilled got involved in their fundraising effort, Rob Gage and a team of parents would approach businesses door to door seeking prize donations for their first Golf Day event.
“We are very proud to support Special Olympics” Says Upskilled founder Joel Gage, whose father initiated the first Golf Day
“We strongly believe that athletes with a disability deserve the same chances as everyone else, to participate in the sports that they love.”
Upskilled makes education accessible to thousands of Australians, with over 100 courses that can be taken online. They believe in giving everyone the opportunity to achieve their best, whether through study or sporting activities.
Joel feels honoured to partner with Special Olympics Sydney South and has adopted the motto, “Supporting athletes with an intellectual disability to achieve their best through sport.”
Upskilled’s employees give their time and energy to organising the charity event and will be on the golf course during the day to ensure it runs smoothly.
Says Joel, “We’re excited and proud to be part of this fun, rewarding day that will see local businesses get together in a relaxed, informal setting to socialise, network and raise some much-needed funds to support athletes with an intellectual disability to achieve their best through sport.”
Businesses and corporations can join the cause with a $1000 hole sponsorship that gives them advertising benefits and other perks.
This year the event will be held on the 26th November at the prestigious Cronulla Golf Club. Be there for the 11.00 a.m. registration and a 12.30 p.m. shotgun start. To purchase single or team tickets, email firstname.lastname@example.org or call Rob on 0419 624 177.
